10 Common Riflescope Problems

1. Scope shift

This is one of the most problems that many people experience when using rifle scopes. Scope shift which is also known as the point of impact takes place when you are aiming or sighting the point where the bullet will hit. If you notice that there is a variation, then scope shift has taken place. Normally, this is not a problem with your scope but the user.

2. Parallax problem

This is another popular problem that brings about scope shift. Again, this problem doesn’t result from your scope but the user. It depends on how you are aiming or how you have set the scope AO wheel. When you look for a different sight line, this makes your target to appear in a marginally different and your shooting will be off.

3. Spring gun problems

As compared to other types of guns, spring guns and sensitive and delicate. Their main problem occurs based on how they are held. Group impacts can sometimes be taken many inches when you are operating at close range. These guns have a vibration system that is sensitive so you need to hold to get a perfect holding style and then repeat it every time you make a shot.Common Riflescope Problems

4. Shooting different distances

This is a major problem that affects the point of impact in reference to the light of sight when shooting and different distances. You have to adjust the elevation and scope centering depending on the distance that you want to shoot. For instance, if you have sighted your scope at 50 yards, the shots will be slightly low when you are shooting at 100 yards.

5. Elevation problems

Elevation can be another problem you can experience with your rifle scope especially if you set the elevation too high. This means that the erector tube moves slightly and give you an idea that your target is floating. When you set the elevation higher than required, the tension in the erector tube will become relaxed so the rector tube is not in a position to hold the springs appropriately.

6. Attachment problems

Maybe you are not hitting your target right simply because the scope is not attached the right way. If you do not mount your scope well, then your shooting will be definitely off. Follow the instructions that are provided on how to attach your scope to your rifle so that you can shoot accurately.

7. Tilting from one side to the other

This is yet another problem that people experience when using rifle scopes. It can take place when the groups move .5 to .75 inches. You can fix this issue by checking the B-Square.

8. Squeezing the trigger

Many people are afraid of the gun’s recoil and this affects how they squeeze the trigger. As a result, you will end up hitting off the target.

9. Eye relief problems

It is great if you consider a rifle scope with a long eye relief to acquire your targets fast. You can maintain 3-4 inches eye relief so that there is more room to avoid gun recoil after shooting.

10. Not adjusting quick focus eyepiece

It goes without saying, if you don’t adjust the quick focus eyepiece, then you will not get a clear sight picture. Moreover, this will make it hard for you if you are trying to shoot tight groups.Riflescope Problems

Final Words

There are many problems that people experience when using rifle scopes. I have covered some of the common problems that might be affecting your ability to make accurate shots. From the above problems covered, you will notice that most of them arise from the user, not the scope itself.

It is important to check how you handle your rifle scope when shooting. If you are consistent, then you will not have problems when hitting your target. Also, make sure that you attach and adjust your scope properly so that you can have the best shooting experience.
